Jews safer in Mississippi than Canada, says Jewish prof who left Montreal for Ole Miss

Gad Saad, a Lebanese-born Jewish scholar and marketing professor, recently relocated from Montreal, Canada, to Mississippi, citing a significant increase in "Jew-hatred" in Canada over the past 25 years. He now holds an association with the Declaration of Independence Center for the Study of American Freedom at the University of Mississippi. Saad stated that he believes Mississippi is safer for Jews than Canada, noting that local law enforcement has pledged protection and that gun ownership is permitted. He recounted an incident in Montreal where police advised him to "stop saying things that upset people" after he was threatened in person. Saad attributes the rise in antisemitism in Canada to Quebec's immigration policies, claiming they prioritize French-speaking Muslim immigrants. According to official Canadian data, Jews, who constitute 1% of the population, were targets of 16.7% of all hate crimes and 70.7% of religion-based hate crimes in 2025. Saad expressed a pessimistic view of Canada's future, seeing it as a "slow demise."
