FBI data released this week showed that Jews were targeted in 1,528 hate crimes in the US in 2025, far more than any other religious group.

The figure amounted to 63% of the 2,408 religion-based hate crimes in the US last year.

Overall hate crimes, and those targeting Jews, decreased last year compared to 2024, although Jews remain disproportionately targeted.

The next most-targeted religious group was Muslims, who were the victims of 205 hate crime incidents, meaning Jews were attacked seven times more often.

Overall, Black people were targeted the most, with 2,811 hate crimes against them, the data showed. The US Black population is around six times larger than the Jewish population.

Jews were targeted in 14% of all hate crimes in the US last year, despite making up around two percent of the population.

The total number of targets against US Jews last year amounted to an antisemitic hate crime every six hours.

There were 410 fewer antisemitic hate crimes last year compared to 2024, a 21% drop. Antisemitic hate crimes in the US spiked following the October 2023 Hamas invasion of Israel and the start of the war in Gaza.

Overall hate crime incidents decreased from 11,679 in 2024 to 10,881 in 2025.

The number of antisemitic hate crimes last year was the third-highest on record, according to an analysis by the Anti-Defamation League.

There were 162 anti-Jewish assaults and three killings last year. The deaths took place in attacks in Washington, DC, and Boulder, Colorado.

The most common antisemitic crime was property destruction, with 920 offenses related to property damage or vandalism.

The FBI data is drawn from law enforcement agencies around the US, but is not comprehensive — around 14% of agencies did not participate, although 95% of the US population was covered by the participating agencies.

The US, and many other places, saw a surge in antisemitic incidents since the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre in southern Israel that sparked the Gaza war.
