Judge rules Bay Area school district not complying with state mandates to address Jew-hatred

The Alameda County Superior Court ruled on Friday that the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has not fully complied with California Department of Education (CDE) directives to address antisemitism on its campuses. This ruling follows a lawsuit filed by the CDE in March after attorney Marleen Sacks alleged inadequate corrective actions by the district. Judge Jenna Whitman found that OUSD has not provided required trainings on Jew-hatred and other discrimination for all district employees, including a mandate for an outside trainer with consultation from a Jewish or Israeli organization. Additionally, OUSD has not trained high school administrators and social studies teachers on unbiased instruction regarding the Middle East. Sacks stated that the ruling "sets a precedent for establishing the authority of the California Department of Education to enforce its own orders."
