Khamenei appoints two formational IRGC leaders to senior political positions within regime

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently appointed two former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leaders to senior political roles. Mohsen Rezaee, who commanded the IRGC from 1981 to 1997, was named Khamenei's representative on the Supreme National Security Council. Rezaee has previously run in multiple presidential elections and has served on the Expediency Discernment Council since 1997.

• Mohammed Bagher Zolghadr, who held various senior IRGC positions, including deputy chief from 1997 to 2006, was appointed as Khamenei's political advisor.
• Zolghadr has advocated for increased IRGC control over Iranian politics, with historian Shahram Kholdi describing him as "one of the last remnants of the radical revolutionaries that armed themselves against the Pahlavi monarchy."
