Lebanon detains man close to Hezbollah for allegedly spying for Israel: judicial official

Lebanese authorities have arrested a man close to Hezbollah on suspicion of spying for Israel, a judicial official reported on Tuesday. The suspect, detained last week at Beirut’s airport while attempting to fly to Iraq, is accused of providing intelligence that led to the assassination of Hezbollah officials, including four top-tier security leaders. The official stated, "He was very close to commanders in Hezbollah, and possessed a wide range of information due to his relationship with them." The detainee, from southern Lebanon, allegedly traveled to Turkey via Iraq to meet with Israeli Mossad agents. This arrest follows a pattern of Lebanese security services apprehending individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel, with dozens arrested since 2019 amid the country's economic collapse.
