'Let us have our peace': Fearing disruption at Ground Zero, 9/11 families ask Mamdani to stay away

She expressed concern that Mamdani's presence would disrupt the families' peace, stating, "The memorial needs to be a sacred and hallowed space where there is peace." Giovanni Galante, whose wife Grace Catherine was killed, launched a petition, garnering over 93,000 signatures, arguing that Mamdani's attendance would be "a slap in the face" due to his support for individuals and ideologies seen as conflicting with the solemn purpose of the event. Despite the petition and family objections, Mamdani has affirmed his intention to attend, stating he will "proudly honor the families" and reaffirm the commitment to never forget the day.
