‘Levites Way’: Route 443 renamed in memory of late foreign minister, links major Israeli regions

Route 443, a significant Israeli road connecting Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Modi'in, and other regions, has been renamed “The Levites Way” in memory of the late Foreign Affairs Minister David Levy. The decision, announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Transportation Minister Miri Regev, honors Levy's service and the Tribe of Levi's historical ties to the area. Netanyahu stated, “We are proud today to commemorate his memory on a road that connects our capital, Jerusalem, with the center of the country, as a symbol of a man who dedicated his life and energy to the unity of Israel.” This renaming follows the recent decision to also name the Shluhot Reservoir after Levy. Levy, who immigrated from North Africa in 1957, served as Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and a Knesset Member for 37 years, advocating for social action and peripheral towns.
