Maccabiah 2026 concludes on 'joyful' note

The 2026 Maccabiah Games, known as the "Jewish Olympics," concluded successfully on July 13 at Expo Tel Aviv, a year after being postponed due to Israel's war with Iran. Over 3,000 athletes from more than 40 countries participated in the nearly two-week event, alongside 2,000 Israeli athletes. Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar stated, "The festive end of the Maccabiah tonight is particularly joyful," emphasizing the encounter between Diaspora Jews and Israel. Roy Hessing, CEO of Maccabi World Union, highlighted the importance of holding the games to "send a clear message to our neighbors around the world that we are strong and united." The closing ceremony included medal presentations and a tribute to victims of violence since October 7, 2023. Additionally, approximately 1,200 participants celebrated bar and bat mitzvahs at Jerusalem's Western Wall.
