Majority of CT’s federal delegation votes to continue aid for Israel

U.S. Representative Jahana Hayes (D-CT-5) was the sole Connecticut congressperson to vote in favor of an amendment proposed by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) on Wednesday, which aimed to prevent State Department funding from being spent on Israel. The amendment, seen as a test for Democrats, was largely symbolic. Hayes stated, "I do believe it opens the door to long overdue, hard conversations on U.S. military aid," and based her vote on constituent feedback, despite finding the amendment "poorly written and extremely broad." Connecticut's other four U.S. Representatives voted against the amendment, with Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-3) citing concerns about its broadness and the discretion it would grant the Trump Administration. The full funding bill passed the House along party lines.
