Mamdani says he won’t protest Netanyahu during UN visit

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Wednesday that he will not participate in protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during Netanyahu's visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly on September 24. Mamdani stated, "I do not have any plans to attend any protest at the U.N. General Assembly." He also clarified that he has never encouraged New Yorkers to protest, only affirmed their right to do so. The mayor emphasized that his primary focus during the General Assembly will be on ensuring the safety and security of New Yorkers and managing disruptions like traffic. Mamdani, who previously campaigned on arresting Netanyahu, acknowledged he lacks the authority to do so and has called on federal authorities instead.
