Mamdani Tisha B'Av message neglects mentioning Israel, destruction of Jewish Temples

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani extended Tisha B'Av greetings to Jewish New Yorkers in a social media post that omitted any mention of Israel or the destruction of the Jewish Temples, drawing criticism. The fast day commemorates the sacking of the Jewish Temples in Jerusalem. Mamdani's post followed a video where he admitted he lacked authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he called a "war criminal." Moshe Spern, President of United Jewish Teachers, stated, "Mamdani doesn’t get the right to wish us a peaceful holiday when his rhetoric directly puts the Jewish community in danger." Rabbi Dovid Katz of the Israel Heritage Foundation suggested Mamdani should apologize for his video before sending Tisha B'Av messages, adding, "We don't need your honey and we don't want your sting."
