Markey, progressive critic of Israel, wins Massachusetts Democratic primary

Senator Ed Markey, a progressive critic of Israel, secured the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, defeating Representative Seth Moulton in the primary. The Associated Press projected Markey's victory shortly after polls closed, with him garnering 75.9% of the votes. Markey, who has served in Congress for 50 years, emphasized the strength of the progressive movement, stating, "Tonight is a testament to the power of the progressive movement." Moulton, who has been in the House since 2015, conceded and offered his full support to Markey, stressing the need for Democratic unity against Donald Trump. Moulton had previously distanced himself from AIPAC, citing its alignment with "Prime Minister Netanyahu's government." Markey's campaign focused on domestic issues like healthcare and LGBTQ+ protections, while also calling to "end the war in Iran, and stop the bombing in Gaza" and "slash the Pentagon budget."
