Marvel actors join campaign calling for release of Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti
Barghouti is a former leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a terrorist organization that carried out many suicide bombings and shooting attacks during the Second Intifada.
Over 20 Marvel actors, including Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Ruffalo, have joined the "Freedom for Marwan" campaign, calling for the release of convicted Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti. The campaign, launched by Barghouti's family in late 2023, expresses "grave concern at the continuing imprisonment of Marwan Barghouti, his violent mistreatment, and denial of legal rights whilst imprisoned." They urge the UN and world governments to seek his release. Barghouti, a former leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, was convicted in 2004 of five counts of murder and one of attempted murder, receiving five life sentences for orchestrating attacks during the Second Intifada. Despite his conviction, supporters view him as a Palestinian leader and symbol of resistance, with a recent poll indicating he is the most popular candidate for Palestinian leadership.
