'Megillat Yerushalyim': Israeli artist Rachel Kainy is turning Jerusalem into a living scroll

Israeli artist Rachel Kainy, born in 1981, is renowned for her aquarelles and watercolor paintings, with her works featured in prestigious venues like The Israel Museum. For the past 11 years, Kainy has lived and worked in Jerusalem, integrating the city into her art. Her latest project, "Megillat Yerushalyim," involves creating urban walking drawings called "Road Sketch scrolls" using a custom-made portable drawing harness by artist Itamar Mendes-Flohr. This device allows her to draw with both hands simultaneously while walking, a technique inspired by her studies of the Zohar and its concept of working with "two lines." Kainy documents Jerusalem's diverse social and cultural aspects, creating a continuous narrative on paper scrolls. She describes this process as "Megillat Jerusalem," aiming to connect with the world and herself through art, touching existence through her creations.
