Mladenov tells UNSC that IDF, Hamas are causing Gaza ceasefire to unravel

Nickolay Mladenov, director-general of the Peace Council, informed the UN Security Council on Wednesday that both Israel and Hamas are contributing to the unraveling of the Gaza ceasefire. Mladenov criticized Hamas, stating that "every weapon carried, every tunnel still worked on, and every convoy still obstructed, sets the process back." He also questioned the effectiveness of Israeli strikes, asking, "Will another strike on a munitions depot stop Hamas from rearming or tightening its grip on Gaza? It will not." For the first time, Hamas and other armed factions in Gaza have reportedly agreed to disarm and transfer full governing authority. The Israeli security cabinet recently approved a pilot phase for the Peace Council's plan in Gaza, focusing on restoring services and establishing civilian infrastructure in non-Hamas controlled areas, starting in Rafah. This plan includes strict security screenings for residents and the deployment of an international stabilization force.
