Morocco names longest highway after Donald Trump

Morocco has named its 1,055-km. Tiznit-Dakhla expressway the “Donald J. Trump Highway” to honor the former US president's 2020 recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. King Mohammed VI informed Trump of the decision in a July 2 letter, stating, “Your historic recognition... will forever be etched in the memory of Moroccans.” The roughly $1 billion highway, described as Africa's longest road infrastructure, connects northern and southern Morocco, including much of Western Sahara, and is intended to improve travel and trade. Trump expressed his gratitude on Truth Social, saying, “Such a Great Honor! I look forward to traveling the entire length of this Great Highway someday, hopefully soon!” This naming follows the 2020 US-brokered agreement where Morocco normalized relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords.
