Netanyahu weighs rotation gov't with Eisenkot amid fears of not securing majority bloc in Knesset

Likud officials are reportedly considering a rotation government between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yashar party head Gadi Eisenkot, anticipating a scenario where neither political bloc secures a Knesset majority after the upcoming election. This discussion aims to prevent political deadlock and another election. A key challenge is overcoming the trust deficit created by the unfulfilled Netanyahu-Gantz rotation agreement in 2020. To address this, one possibility being explored is linking the leadership transition to Netanyahu's future move to the presidency after Isaac Herzog's term, offering him a clear political exit and providing Eisenkot with a stronger guarantee that the rotation would occur. Other mechanisms under consideration include commitments regarding the budget, no-confidence votes, and legal safeguards to ensure the agreement is honored. Likud believes that if Netanyahu is dependent on Eisenkot for a government, this interdependence would serve as an additional guarantee against a breach of the agreement.
