Netherlands to return to Eurovision 2027 after boycotting Israel’s participation

The Netherlands will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 after boycotting the 2026 event due to Israel's participation. Dutch public broadcaster NPO announced its decision, taking over from AVROTROS, which had previously stated the contest could "no longer be considered neutral" given a participating country's involvement in a military conflict. AVROTROS director-general Taco Zimmerman had commented, "The Eurovision Song Contest was originally created to bring people and countries together." The 2027 contest will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria, from May 11-15. The Netherlands was one of five countries that withdrew from the 2026 contest; Ireland has also indicated it will skip the 2027 event, while Spain and Iceland are still reviewing their participation.
