New German envoy to Israel begins term with Yad Vashem visit

Germany's new ambassador-designate to Israel, Alexander Lambsdorff, began his term with an official visit to Yad Vashem on Monday. He emphasized Germany's historical responsibility, stating, "Remembering the Shoah, I feel the responsibility that emerges from Nazi Germany's past for my country's future and its relations to Israel and the Jewish people today." Lambsdorff, who arrived last Thursday, expressed his honor in the role and highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Germany and Israel, noting, "Germany and Israel have a wonderful and incredible relationship." He aims to further this unprecedented level of cooperation. Lambsdorff previously served as Germany's ambassador to Russia and was a member of both the European Parliament and the German Bundestag.
