New Jewish-Arab Party Could Impact Israel's Bid to Oust Netanyahu

A new Jewish-Arab political party, "A Place for Us All," launched in June, is targeting young voters for Israel's October 27 election. Founded by leaders of the left-wing protest movement Standing Together, the party aims to promote unity and unseat the current right-wing government, which they contend has exacerbated grievances among Israel's Arab minority. Critics, however, warn that the party risks fragmenting the Arab vote, potentially hindering efforts to increase Arab representation and voter turnout, which was 53.2% in 2022 compared to 75% for Jewish voters. Arik Rudnitzky, an Israel Democracy Institute expert, stated, "Any vote given to such a party would simply be a waste of votes that the Arab societies cannot afford." The party's co-leader, Alon-Lee Green, maintains they seek to expand the electorate by attracting new voters and is confident they can clear the 3.25% electoral threshold, though he acknowledged they would not run if they concluded otherwise. Arab political leaders, including Yousef Jabareen of the Hadash party, have largely dismissed the new party's chances.
