New York Governor Kathy Hochul promises to increase holiday security at synagogues, Jewish sites

New York Governor Kathy Hochul pledged increased security for synagogues and Jewish communities across the state ahead of the High Holidays. Speaking at Manhattan's Central Synagogue, she stated, "If you need more money, if you need more protection, I will send the New York State Police here." This commitment follows a recent incident where a man attacked a worshiper and security guard at the synagogue. Hochul emphasized her "special responsibility" as the leader of a state with a large Jewish population, asserting, "There is no place for hate in New York State." She also addressed rising antisemitism since October 7, citing her visit to Israel to "tell the truth" about the massacre, and her push for a 50-foot buffer zone around houses of worship to protect congregants.
