Next round of Israel-Lebanon talks to take place early August in Rome, US official says

The next round of talks between Israel and Lebanon is scheduled for August 4-6 in Rome, a senior US State Department official announced. These discussions will center on implementing a trilateral framework, resolving border disputes, and expanding pilot areas in southern Lebanon. In these zones, Lebanese troops will verify the removal of Hezbollah terrorists and weapons, aiming to restore Lebanese state authority and build trust. The initial pilot zone is seen as a "genuine opportunity to achieve progress on the ground." Negotiators also intend to work towards a comprehensive peace and security agreement. The Trump administration is committed to these discussions, with all sides entering talks with “significant momentum” following a meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and US President Donald Trump.
