NGO B’Tselem report presents baseless claims of Israel dismantling Palestinian life in West Bank

A new report by the NGO B'Tselem, titled “The Elimination Project,” claims Israel is systematically dismantling Palestinian life in the West Bank to deepen Jewish control. The report, drawing on over 2,000 testimonies since October 2023 and three decades of B'Tselem's materials, asserts that Israel employs a “comprehensive mechanism of elimination” encompassing violence, movement restrictions, economic strangulation, and social destruction. B'Tselem frames this as not only physical elimination but also the “elimination” of Palestinian land, institutions, and culture, and labels Israel's actions as genocide, ethnic cleansing, settler colonialism, and apartheid.

The IDF vehemently rejected these claims, stating, “any claim that the State of Israel, including the IDF, is advancing a course of action aimed at eliminating the Palestinians as a people is false, baseless, and blatantly disconnected from reality.”

The IDF emphasized its mission is to thwart terrorism and protect residents. The report is criticized for not acknowledging Palestinian terrorism or its role in Israeli policy, and for referring to Hamas's October 7 attack as a “criminal attack” by an “armed Palestinian organization” without labeling it terrorism. The article also refutes B'Tselem's claims of Israeli impunity for harming Palestinians, citing cases where soldiers were prosecuted and punished.
