Scammers, identifying themselves as the "Jewish Holocaust Claims Center" (JHCC), are urging individuals to submit compensation claims. The department, which "takes seriously its commitment to protecting New Yorkers from fraud," referred the case to inspectors general in New York, New Jersey, and the U.S. Postal Service after becoming aware of unsolicited correspondence. The state cannot verify the legitimacy of the JHCC and advises caution when contacted about compensation eligibility. The department also issued a consumer notice and engaged with advocacy groups and local officials. Legitimate entities for Holocaust claims include a state office and the Claims Conference.
