Ohio Republican fires campaign political director for using Nazi soldiers in social-media profile photo

Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted's campaign has dismissed its political director, Stephen B. Woytek, after discovering he used a photo of Nazi SS soldiers as his Facebook profile picture in 2018. Woytek, 25, stated he participates in historical re-enactments for educational purposes, including dressing as an SS soldier, and acknowledged he "should have exercised better judgment when posting about my activities online." He also affirmed his rejection of "the racist and antisemitic ideology the SS and Nazi Germany represented." Husted, a member of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, hired Woytek in August. A campaign spokeswoman indicated that Woytek's social media activity "displays a complete lack of judgment and disregard for its impact on others."
