Ontario strengthens enforcement of campus Jew-hatred law

Ontario's Minister of Colleges, Nolan Quinn, revised a government directive on Thursday to strengthen enforcement against Jew-hatred and other forms of hate on college campuses. The updated directive introduces potential funding reductions for institutions that fail to comply with provincial requirements. This action implements parts of Bill 166, the Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act, enacted in 2024, which mandates publicly funded colleges and universities to establish policies addressing various forms of bigotry, including Jew-hatred, anti-Black racism, and Islamophobia. Institutions must also track complaints, report annually on investigations, develop training and security protocols, and protect access to religious and cultural spaces. B'nai Brith Canada welcomed the revision, with Richard Robertson stating, "If an institution is not complying with provincial legislation, it should not benefit from the receipt of public funds."
