'Our Loves' is a film about people, not October 7, Israeli filmmaker Avi Nesher tells 'Post'

Israeli filmmaker Avi Nesher's latest movie, "Our Loves," will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, followed by the Haifa International Film Festival on September 26, and a theatrical release in Israel on October 15. The film, Nesher's 22nd feature, explores the human spirit and resilience in the face of tragedy, focusing on individuals who believed October 6, 2023, was the worst day of their lives before the October 7 attacks. Nesher initially resisted making a film about October 7, stating, "You can't make a movie about October 7. It has to be done by historians." However, a profound experience with survivors from a decimated kibbutz, who found solace and even love amidst the horror, inspired him to create a narrative about personal and national redemption. The movie is based on real survivor testimonies, aiming to offer hope and a message of appreciating life after profound loss, a theme Nesher relates to personally after the death of his son.
