Over 40 Israeli organizations sign joint statement in solidarity with NAZA filmmakers

Forty-three Israeli organizations have issued a joint statement supporting NAZA filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, who received threats after their documentary won a Special Jury Award at the Venice Film Festival. The film's promo featured an anonymous IDF soldier discussing AI targeting software used in Gaza, leading to public backlash and calls from Culture Minister Miki Zohar to revoke their citizenship, which he called an "act of treason against the state." The organizations condemned these actions, stating, "The institutional response to the film and the threats against its creators are characteristic of dictatorial regimes" and that "Citizenship is not a prize granted by the regime or the government, but a fundamental right." They emphasized the importance of freedom of expression and the press, calling for an investigation into the film's allegations and independent reporting from Gaza. This statement follows a similar petition signed by over 1,000 Israeli filmmakers.
