Over 80 British lawmakers, peers press UK for tougher measures against Israel

Over 80 British lawmakers and peers have written to Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, urging the UK government to impose sanctions and take tougher measures against Israel. The letter, sent ahead of the second anniversary of the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) advisory opinion on Israel's occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), argues that Israel has failed to comply with the ICJ's finding that its presence in the OPT is unlawful. The parliamentarians assert that the UK has legal and moral obligations under the ruling and must apply international law consistently. They demand actions such as banning trade with Israeli settlements, sanctioning individuals and entities linked to the occupation, suspending the UK-Israel trade agreement, and ending all arms transfers to Israel.
