Pacific island nation Nauru opens embassy in Jerusalem

The Pacific island nation of Naoero (formerly Nauru) opened an embassy in Jerusalem on Monday, becoming the ninth country to locate its diplomatic mission in Israel’s capital. Naoero’s Foreign Minister Lionel Aingimea stated, “Our motto is God first, and Israel always has a special place in our hearts,” emphasizing the nation's unwavering support for Israel and its consistent diplomatic alliance at the United Nations. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar noted the significant advancement in relations between Israel and South Pacific nations, highlighting the shared pride in identity and heritage. The decision to establish the embassy in Jerusalem was made after discussions between Aingimea and Sa’ar and received full endorsement from Naoero’s Cabinet. Other countries with embassies in Jerusalem include the United States, Fiji, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and Somaliland.
