Palestinian ministry says Israeli forces kill man at barrier

On Monday, Israeli forces fatally shot Naser Kaabneh, a 30-year-old Palestinian worker, as he attempted to cross a barrier near Bir Nabala, northeast of Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The Jerusalem Governorate stated he was "struck by a direct bullet to the heart while trying to reach his workplace inside the city to support his family." Israel, which has occupied the West Bank since 1967, implemented movement restrictions and built the barrier for security during the second intifada. Following the October 2023 Hamas attack, Israel reduced work permits, leading to an increase in Palestinians attempting to cross without authorization. Violence in the West Bank has escalated since October 2023, with at least 1,087 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces or settlers, and 46 Israelis killed in Palestinian attacks or military operations.
