Pentagon's US-Iran war fatality accounting may be inaccurate – report

A Washington Post report on Friday, citing six US officials, indicates that the Pentagon's public casualty count for US service members in the Middle East since February 28 is inaccurate. While the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) lists 18 fatalities, officials state there have been at least 22, with one official claiming 23. These undisclosed deaths, though not all directly combat-related, involved US personnel in the region during the conflict. Additionally, three US contractors have died. Officials expressed frustration, emphasizing that accurate accounting is crucial for transparency and for families receiving survivor benefits. The Pentagon recently named two service members, Sgt. Devin Seibel and Maj. Sorffly Davius, who died in the region during missions unrelated to the Iran war, though both were at bases attacked by Iranian forces.
