Police presence during High Holidays to be ‘higher this year’ than in previous years, Tisch says

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) will significantly increase its presence at Jewish institutions during the High Holidays, deploying more officers than in previous years, according to Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. This heightened security, which includes uniformed foot posts and dedicated house-of-worship patrols, comes despite no specific credible threats, but in response to recent attacks on Jewish New Yorkers and a surge in antisemitic hate crimes. Commissioner Tisch stated, "Our deployment this year for the High Holy Days at shuls and yeshivas and Jewish cultural institutions" will be larger "based on the realities of the world that we live in today." The increased security measures will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, with the NYPD monitoring threats both locally and internationally.
