POLL: American Jews Are Divided On Israel, Safety, And Politics

An AP-NORC poll of over 1,000 Jewish American adults reveals significant divisions on Israel's military actions, concerns about antisemitism, and political leadership support. While 80% of religiously affiliated Jews found Israel's immediate response to the October 7 attack justified, only about half viewed ongoing operations in Gaza as such. Non-religious Jews showed less support, with only 2 in 10 finding ongoing operations acceptable. A quarter of religiously affiliated Jews believe Israel has committed genocide, compared to 40% of non-religious Jews.

• Approximately 60% of Jewish adults consider prejudice against Jewish people a serious problem in the U.S., with one-third feeling unsafe.
• 30% reported experiencing antisemitic incidents in the past year.
• Only about 20% of Jewish adults believe President Trump supports Jewish people well, and 70% hold an unfavorable view of him.
• While half of Jewish adults do not consider protesting pro-Israel events antisemitic, a large majority agree that actions like vandalizing synagogues or denying the Holocaust are antisemitic.
• Support for Israel as part of Jewish identity is more prevalent among older, religiously affiliated Jews, while younger adults prioritize celebrating Jewish holidays.
