'Profoundly corrupt': Trump faces lawsuit after selling early access to Truth Social posts

Former US President Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit from The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation over his Truth Social platform's new service, Truth API. Launched on August 1, Truth API offers paid early access to posts from high-profile accounts, including Trump's, for up to $100,000 monthly. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, argues that this service is "profoundly corrupt" as Trump, the largest shareholder in Trump Media & Technology Group, stands to gain financially. It also claims the service violates the First Amendment by restricting equal access to government announcements, many of which are exclusively posted on Truth Social without official White House statements. Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff had previously urged the SEC to investigate whether Truth API undermines financial market integrity. A Trump Media spokesperson defended the service, stating that "countless" platforms already disseminate information from Trump and accused "left-wing activists" of attempting to censor him.
