Prosecutors file attempted aggravated murder charges in stabbing of Muslim man in Utah

Prosecutors in Salt Lake County, Utah, have filed two attempted aggravated murder charges against Peter Michael Larsen following a stabbing incident on Monday at the Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City. Larsen allegedly stabbed a Muslim man multiple times due to the victim's religion. According to District Attorney Sim Gill, the charges include notices for a potential hate crime, as Larsen is considered a habitual violent offender and used a dangerous weapon as a restricted person. Police stated Larsen told them he "intends to kill Muslims" and wanted "to be a catalyst so people would rid the country of Muslims." The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and required surgery. Bystanders restrained Larsen until officers arrived.
