Protesters block Jerusalem roads, target light rail construction site

Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) protesters blocked roads and attempted to damage a light rail construction site on Bar Ilan Street and near Zaks Junction in Jerusalem on Monday night, according to Israel Police. Police declared the gathering a public disturbance and used crowd dispersal measures when protesters failed to comply. This follows similar disruptions on Sunday, where protesters loitered on tracks, preventing construction crews from working. These actions are part of weeks of protests against light rail construction in a heavily Haredi neighborhood. An N12 report indicates that Haredi protesters have caused over NIS 400 million in damage to the Jerusalem light rail's unfinished Green Line over the past six years.
