Rahm Emanuel’s fifth campaign against Benjamin Netanyahu

Rahm Emanuel, former White House Chief of Staff, has engaged in a long-standing political rivalry with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stemming from their differing ideological paths despite shared Revisionist Zionist family backgrounds. Emanuel's father was a member of the Irgun, while Netanyahu's father was an aide to Ze'ev Jabotinsky. Emanuel, a Democrat, has actively campaigned against Netanyahu in various capacities since the 1990s.

• In 1996, Emanuel supported Shimon Peres against Netanyahu, losing his first campaign.
• He successfully backed Ehud Barak against Netanyahu in 1999.
• As Obama's Chief of Staff, Emanuel implicitly opposed Netanyahu in 2009 and clashed with him over settlement construction, reportedly being called a "self-hating Jew" by Netanyahu.
• In 2015, Emanuel publicly supported the Iran deal, a policy Netanyahu vehemently opposed, but Netanyahu still won reelection.
