Reconciliation with Netanyahu will not turn Vance into a Zionist, former consul warns

Former Israeli consul in Los Angeles, Yaki Dayan, discussed the recent reconciliation between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Vice President JD Vance, stating it "won't make Vance a Zionist." Dayan believes the reduced hostility might make Vance more cautious about future anti-Israel statements, particularly regarding conspiracy theories. He noted that this reflects a broader trend within the Republican Party, where figures like Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon represent a segment that has been "completely lost" to Israel's support. Dayan identified two other currents: one represented by Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham, who understand Israel's importance, and the evangelicals, who are strong supporters for their own reasons.

"Is Israel's standing in the United States today at a very low point in terms of public opinion? The answer is unequivocal, yes. Do we have a big problem in American politics? The answer is also yes," Dayan warned.

He attributed this decline to both internal Israeli factors and external US political shifts, such as the disappearance of the political center and the left's strong move towards progressivism, which he views as a serious problem for Israel's support.
