Record heatwave expected to hit Israel this weekend with potential 47°C in Sea of Galilee region

Israel is bracing for a record-breaking heatwave this weekend, starting Friday and peaking Saturday and Sunday. The Israel Meteorological Service forecasts temperatures could reach 47°C in the Sea of Galilee region on Sunday, potentially surpassing the 46.8°C record set in Beit Tsaida on August 9, 1998. Dr. Amir Givati, Director of the Israel Meteorological Service, stated that if this occurs, it "would break the regional temperature record." The heatwave will bring dry conditions and strong winds to northern Israel, increasing wildfire risks. Extreme heat is expected across most of the country, including the southern Golan Heights, northern valleys, and Dead Sea coast, with heavy heat in other regions like the Coastal Plain and central hills.
