'Red Ribbons' campaign urges Red Cross be allowed access to Palestinians held by Israel

The global 'Red Ribbons' campaign is urging the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to resume independent visits to Palestinians in Israeli prisons. This follows an Israeli Supreme Court ruling on June 3, 2026, which overturned a ban on humanitarian access that had been in place since October 2023. However, the Israel Prison Service has imposed new restrictions, limiting visits to certain categories of detainees, allowing only one 30-minute visit every three months for a maximum of five prisoners, and permitting prison commanders to end meetings early. Dr. Mustafa Barghouti stated, "The continued denial of humanitarian visits and independent international monitoring for Palestinian prisoners constitutes a serious violation." The ICRC confirmed on June 30 that it is ready to restart visits but has not received a date for access. Palestinian organizations report over 9,600 prisoners, including 3,532 in administrative detention, 350 children, and 86 women.
