Rep. Goodlander joins vote to cut $3.3B in Israel aid

U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander was among 103 House Democrats who voted to cut $3.3 billion in aid to Israel, despite receiving endorsements from pro-Israel groups. The amendment, proposed by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, ultimately failed due to broader Republican support for Israel. Goodlander stated her vote reflects a belief that the U.S. and Israel should forge “a more normal partnership, built not on dependence and aid, but on shared interests, shared principles and mutual accountability.” She reiterated her support for Israel’s right to exist and for American air-defense systems, but called for a “reset” of the alliance, deeming continued military subsidies unnecessary and antithetical to American values.

U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas abstained from the vote, arguing that cutting aid would "hamstring our humanitarian efforts" and lead to "more war and instability."
