A new national survey, the Canadian Jewish Barometer 2026, indicates a decline in non-Jewish Canadians' favorable views of Jews and Israel over the past two years. Co-author Rhonda Lenton, former president of York University, attributes this shift, in part, to diversity, inclusion, and equity (DEI) programs. Lenton stated it was "ironic" that these programs are "often structurally incapable of even seeing antisemitism, let alone addressing it." The study, co-authored with sociologist Robert Brym, is based on a web-panel survey of 3,062 Canadian adults conducted from mid-January to mid-February this year. Findings show a statistically significant drop in positive sentiment towards Jews and an increase in agreement with negative statements about Jews, suggesting a more hostile environment for Canadian Jewry compared to previous decades.
