Rubio: US counterterrorism has overlooked far-left political violence

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Thursday that American counterterrorism efforts have historically overlooked far-left political violence, focusing primarily on Islamist extremism for 25 years. Speaking at the U.S. State Department's Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, attended by over 60 countries, Rubio argued that extreme violence from the far left has been "dismissed as a partisan fiction." He contrasted the perception of neo-Nazi bombings as evil with Marxist revolutionary bombings being seen as "merely a tragic excess of idealism." In response, the State Department announced new visa restrictions targeting members of "Far-Left Terrorist" groups and affiliated networks. These restrictions apply to foreign nationals who have supported, incited, or financed violent acts, aiming to disrupt international coordination and funding for such groups.
