Russia, China could take advantage of low US weapons stockpiles to start war with America – NYT

Senior US officials and defense experts warn that rapidly depleting US weapons stockpiles, due to the conflict with Iran, could embolden Russia and China to initiate conflicts with America. Tom Karako of the Center for Strategic and International Studies stated, "It's impossible for that not to have a significant effect on the decision calculus of Russia and China." The US has expended a substantial number of long-range missiles and interceptors, costing millions and leading to diversions of military assets from Asia and Europe to the Middle East. This shortage, which could extend beyond the current administration, has caused tension between President Trump and the Pentagon. Despite warnings, Trump proceeded with the conflict, though he reportedly scaled back a bombing campaign due to low munitions. The situation has also impacted Ukraine's defense against Russia and raised concerns among Asian allies about potential Chinese aggression and the need for independent deterrence.
