S.F. man arrested in Israel for fatal hit-and-run in South San Francisco

Maher Abedelal, 32, a San Francisco man, was arrested in Israel and returned to the U.S. on July 14 to face charges related to a fatal 2017 hit-and-run in South San Francisco. He was booked into San Mateo County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. The incident, which occurred on November 11, 2017, resulted in the death of 44-year-old Teresa Gonzales, who was struck on El Camino Real. Investigators identified Abedelal as the driver who fled the country days after the collision, remaining at large for several years before his recent location and apprehension in Israel.
