Saudi Arabia’s request for help from Israel is ‘an opportunity’

Saudi Arabia has reportedly sought Israeli intelligence assistance, via U.S. Central Command, following Houthi attacks on its oil infrastructure and the seizure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. A Western observer suggested this presents an opportunity for Israel to secure tangible returns, such as recognition and normalization, rather than being a "silent partner." However, the observer cautioned that open assistance could provoke Houthi attacks against Israel, as the group is currently not targeting Israeli vessels. Hussain Abdul-Hussain of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies emphasized that any Israeli support should be contingent on Riyadh publicly acknowledging Israel's participation. Bridget Toomey, also from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, noted that Houthi territorial gains strengthen their regional influence and capacity to threaten international shipping, potentially impacting Israel in the future despite the current lull in attacks against it.
