Shin Bet involved in search for missing child Haymanut Kasau, Herzog says at meeting with parents

President Isaac Herzog announced on Tuesday that the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) is involved in the search for Haymanut Kasau, a child missing for 913 days since February 25, 2024. This development follows a written appeal from the Kasau family to Shin Bet chief David Zini on Monday, expressing their frustration that the Israel Police had no leads. Herzog stated, "The Shin Bet is involved in the case and is fully committed to contributing in every way to locating Haymanut." Haymanut was nine years old when she disappeared from the Safed Jewish Agency absorption center area. While the Shin Bet's involvement does not necessarily imply a nationalistic motive, as the agency typically investigates such cases, Herzog emphasized that locating Haymanut is a "top priority for the enforcement agencies." The family, including Haymanut's father Tesfai, expressed concerns about potential discrimination in the initial search efforts.
