California Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton expressed his shock regarding the safety concerns of Jewish Californians, stating it is “completely unacceptable” that people need to pay for extra security for community and family events. During a visit to UCLA Hillel, Hilton heard accounts from students and local leaders about their daily reality. He emphasized that as governor, he would ensure laws are enforced equally to combat antisemitic hate crimes, asserting, “We cannot have part of our community in California fearing to show their identity in public because of the threat of violence.” Hilton, who participated in a discussion at the Jewish American Summit, also discussed his campaign, claiming to be closing the gap against his Democratic opponent, Xavier Becerra, by focusing on issues like rising costs and regulations.
