Sixty Palestinians detained by Israel return to Gaza, describe abuses

Sixty Palestinian detainees, described as laborers from Gaza, were released by Israel and returned to Khan Younis, Gaza, via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This marks the largest release since October 2023. The men, some injured and unable to walk, arrived at Nasser Medical Complex, where they were greeted by relatives and medical teams. They were among nearly 1,300 people from Gaza held by Israel as “unlawful combatants” and were released after interrogations. Detainees described harsh conditions and abuses in Israeli prisons, including beatings and medical neglect. Abdullah Kilani, seized in December 2024, stated, “The conditions were extremely harsh.” Another detainee, Abu Ibrahim, reported being beaten with rifle butts. Mohammed Jabr al-Majdalawi, held for nearly two years, urged international bodies to act, stating, “The prisoners who remain inside are still in danger.” The ICRC has been unable to access Palestinian detainees since October 2023 and continues to demand access.
